Africans Protest in Guangzhou, China

A rare protest by foreigners has taken place in the southern city of Guangzhou.Scores of foreigners, mainly Africans, surrounded a police station following rumors that an African stall-holder had died during a raid by police checking on visas. The protest erupted mid-afternoon on Wednesday in an area of Guangzhou known for its large community of African traders and small businesses. A witness quoted by the South China Morning Post said police carried out a surprise passport check at the Tangqi Foreign Trade Clothes Plaza in central Guangzhou at around 2pm. Two Nigerians who then fled were chased by officers. The witness said the pair tried to escape by leaping to the ground from a second floor window.Africans Protest, Guangzhou
